What is the dress code for Indian Oasis Elementary Intermediate School?

We expect our students to dress in a way that shows respect for themselves, for others, and for their school. School uniforms create a sense of community.  All students should wear their uniform each day—to school and to all school-sponsored events. Indian Oasis Elementary Intermediate School uniforms are burgundy or white shirts with khaki or black pants.

What will happen if my child becomes ill while at school?

If a student becomes ill, we will attempt to notify a parent or guardian promptly, and we will care for the student in our nurse’s station until a parent or guardian arrives. Students may not leave school grounds without either a parent or another approved adult (as listed on the student’s information form). If the situation is a medical emergency, we will follow standard emergency procedures.

What do you learn in Culture classes?

As part of our philosophy to educate and empower the whole child, Indian Oasis Elementary Intermediate School sets aside time in our week to focus on Tohono O’odham’s rich culture and heritage. We spend time reinforcing the Himdag, learning the language of the People, and sharing unique cultural recipes, ceremonies, and stories. If you would like to be involved, please contact our Parent Liaison.

How do you handle discipline issues?

Our system of discipline is based on the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS). This system teaches appropriate behavior, reinforces good choices, and encourages each student to take responsibility for their own actions. If you would like more information, please reference our Student Handbook found through the quick links on our home page.
