A Message from Our Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are super excited and look forward to the upcoming 2026–2027 school year. More importantly, we look forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential.
We are all excited to welcome our new and returning students back into our classrooms. We would also like to welcome our Assistant Principal, Gabriela Medina, and new teachers that you can see on our staff page. Our teachers and support staff are planning and preparing the classrooms for fun and engaging academic experiences.
To start the year off, all students will receive an AVID binder, a pencil pouch with supplies, paper, dividers, and an amazing teacher.
Please stay in touch by using:
- ParentVUE on the Parent Portal
- ClassDojo (your teacher will be giving you a code to register)
- Monthly Newsletters (sent first week of the month)
- Baboquivari Education Facebook
As a district, BUSD has many goals so that we can all be successful. They are:
- 80% of the students will be proficient by reaching 70% mastery on the Arizona state standards. Help us monitor your child’s academic progress by checking the parent portal and keeping in touch with their teacher.
- 90% attendance by school, grade, and teacher. Attendance is crucial so that all students can be successful and to be on time.
- Increase math proficiency 25% or higher by utilizing assessments and benchmarks to effectively increase instructional practices quarterly. Teachers will be providing fun and engaging research-based instruction using Beyond Textbooks.
- Increase ELA proficiency 25% or higher by utilizing assessments and benchmarks to effectively increase instructional practices and intervention who have not demonstrated mastery of the required content/skills. Teachers will be providing fun and engaging research-based instruction using Beyond Textbooks and interventions using small groups and placed in their reading level class for Success For All (SFA).
- School leaders will increase their coaching with teachers to support effective instruction and engagement strategies using walkthrough data. BUSD leaders will be in the classrooms giving feedback and coaching our teachers so that we all can grow and be successful.
Things to look forward to for the 2026–2027 school year:
- SFA has new texts added to each level.
- The Amazing Shake competition and the Amazing Shake competition.
- 6th grade volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball.
- Altruismo, Isibindi, Amistad, and Rêveur competitions
- Academic competitions
- Student Council
- Attendance competitions
- PBIS: Positive behavior interventions and support
Once again, welcome back! We look forward to making a difference in our students’ academic careers and in helping make this year magical and fun. Help us be wildly engaged and thrive for success!
Sincerely,
JoLynn Begay-Lewis
